Nursery Furniture - New Mom Must Haves

If this is you first baby, furnishing the nursery can be fun but also somewhat confusing. You may have had acquaintances and family tell you that particular pieces of furniture are must haves for your nursery. You should know that each person's necessities we'll be different, something you use often may not be considered useful by another mom. So let's take a look at some furniture pieces you may be thinking about purchasing.

Because babies spend so much time sleeping, one definite necessity for a newborn is a place to sleep. While not a requirement, a bassinet or a Moses basket is a very nice thing to have with a newborn. Both the Moses basket and the bassinet are easily moved so you can have the baby in what ever room you are in with little efforts. After the first couple of months these can no longer be used. By the time your baby can roll around and lift its head, the baby could cause a bassinet or Moses basket to turn over so it is no longer a safe place for your baby to sleep. Keeping this in my mind, will help you decide whether the purchase of a Moses basket or bassinet is a necessity for you. If you can borrow a bassinet or Moses basket, go ahead and then if you don't use it you are not out any money.

Unless you plan on having your baby sleep with you (and this is an option that many new parents choose), a crib will be a necessary purchase. Crib manufacturers offer a wide variety of styles and use many different materials in making cribs. You can find cribs that fit most any budget, with prices that start at a few hundred dollars and continue up to several thousand dollars. Always shop with eye on your budget. One last thing to consider when purchasing a crib, is buying a crib that converts into a youth size bed or regular size bed when your baby is no longer a baby.

A changing table is one of the pieces of furniture that some moms say they couldn't live without, while other moms say they never use them. One idea you might want to consider is using a purchased changing pad on top of a dresser you already own. You will then have a changing table with the added benefit of using it, Nursery Furniture, as a dresser again by simply removing the changing pad. Many pieces sold specifically as changing tables can also latter be used as a dresser.

A particular piece of nursery furniture may or may not be necessary for you and your baby, only you can answer that question. Think carefully when purchasing and buy only what you honestly think you will use and need. Whatever pieces of furniture you do decide to purchase, have fun putting your nursery together. Once you have purchased your "must haves" you can move on to the even more enjoyable task of decorating the nursery.
